This startup has developed the first fully-automated glucose control system specifically for the needs of hospital and surgical care. The system attaches to a patient’s intravenous line, and automatically measures blood glucose concentration in real time with no blood loss. From this, it creates an adaptive, computational model of each patient’s metabolism, and infuses precisely-optimized, counterbalancing treatment—insulin to reduce high glycemic levels and glucose to raise and support falling levels.

This startup is a team of leading researchers and experienced bioentrepreneurs that have developed a new drug that decreases the amount of fat deposited in the body. The drug inhibits a gut hormone (Glucose-dependent Insulinotropic Polypeptide (GIP)) which is known to increase fat accumulation. The GIP inhibitor has shown antiobesity effects in rodents with striking weight loss. The GIP inhibitor is naturally occurring in the human body which minimalizes expected side effects. Within this year, this drug will be tested in a human study to show proof of concept in an anti-obesity setting
