What are we looking for?

INGREDIENTS FROM NEW & RESILIENT FEEDSTOCKS

Alternative carbon sources

  1. Sustainable ingredients replacing compounds found in castor, soy, palm, coco.
  2. Sustainable ingredients to reinvent cosmetic functionalities.

We are looking for partners who provide plant-based solutions that safeguard nature and actively restore our ecosystems. We specifically seek ingredients produced in conditions promoting:

  • Ecosystem restoration (favouring reforestation and soil health)
  • Climate resilience (solutions derived from crops naturally adapted to climate evolution, demonstrating resilience to heat waves, pest and water scarcity)
  • Biodiversity enrichment (production models that actively foster local natural ecosystems health)
  • Resource optimisation (crop-derived ingredients having low-carbon profile and minimal water requirements)

The following are examples of ingredients we want to replace with sustainable alternatives:

  • Ricinoleic acid, sebacate, castor seed oil or wax (hydrogenated castor oil)
  • Polysaccharides with high potential for functionalisation
  • Triglycerides with high melting point
  • Mixtures of acids – lauric, myristic, palmitic acid, caprylic, or their alcohol derivatives
  • Lauramidopropyl-, cocoamidopropyl-, coco- betaines
  • Glycerin
  • Lecithin or Hydrogenated Lecithin, hydrolysed soy protein, soybean oil = glycine soja: linoleic acid (omega-6) and oleic acid (omega-9), soybean extract, isoflavones

LOW-CARBON TECHNOLOGIES

Bio-circularity – from agricultural, food & wood co-products or waste.

Carbon capture & utilisation

Industrial side streams – circularity from non-valorized streams in existing facilities.

Low carbon transformation processes

EMERGING GREEN SCIENCES TO REVOLUTIONISE COSMETICS

Innovative fermentation processes – to unlock efficiency and sustainability potential (e.g. hyper-fermentation).

Emerging green chemistry processes – e.g. towards new green and non-ecotoxic solvents (volatile and non-volatile), mechanochemistry, electrochemistry.

Hybrid technical solutions that revolutionise performance & cost

L’Oréal Green Sciences Incubator is looking for innovative solutions for impactful collaborations:

In order to accelerate our revolution and play a key role in the transformation of the cosmetic industry, the L’Oréal Green Sciences Incubator develops a tripartite incubation program between L’Oréal R&I, Genopole and your startup.

  • L’ORÉAL, leader in the Beauty sector, with research teams from advanced research to development, formulation, and evaluations. (Further collaboration possible after the programme: collaboration, co-development, investment.)
  • GENOPOLE, the first biocluster created in France, an innovation hub in life sciences, it stimulates the growth of biotechnology startups in health and environment, with its Upscale Bio support programme.
  • AND YOU

This opportunity is for you if you are:

  • Currently developing an innovative solution for cosmetics application or would like to transpose your solution in development to the cosmetics industry.
  • Looking for unique lab facilities, business support or technological platforms to bring your solution to the next level.

What will you benefit from?

The collaboration will be tailored to your startup’s needs and will include:

  • Co-innovative mindset – share a common project, team and space.
  • A common team – collaborate with a wide range of L’Oréal experts.
  • Access to Genopole’s resources – benefit from a privileged access to a selection of Genopole’s support and platforms.

L’Oréal and Genopole will assess the selected startups and offer a six-month to one-year programme based on your solution, technology maturity, and identified challenges

What is Genopole and
What does it have for you?

Genopole is a biocluster mostly funded by the French government and the Île-de-France Regional Council to stimulate the growth of biotechnology startups. From its various resources, the selected startups can have access to:

  • Technological platforms: GATEX and Protopia. Preferential access to 21 other technological platforms such as: mass spectometry, imaging and cytometry
  • Upscale Bio expert support: Fully tailored to your needs, including fundraising, communication strategy, market access, technology development and many more topics
  • Unique ecosystem: 78 certified companies, 16 academic laboratories, and partnership with Evry Paris-Saclay University
  • Fully equipped biotech labs: Laboratory space (First Lab), BSL-1 and 2 laboratories and mutualised services
